outreach to academic units
A major focus of our outreach program aims to connect academic departments with the library. As part of our regular instruction program, we offer a number of library instruction classes and information sessions tailored to the needs of individual departments or programs.
Librarians, many of whom are subject specialists, have created customized web pages for humanities and social sciences academic departments. The pages summarize the library’s holdings for the department’s disciplinary scope, highlight important library resources for research in the discipline, and provide numerous links to library services, information, and staff.
Here are a few examples of web pages created for academic departments in the Arts & Sciences College:
- American Indian Studies (David Block)
- Anthropology (Maureen Morris)
- Asian American Studies (Beth Katzoff)
- Classics (Bob Kibbee & Kizer Walker)
- Economics (Deb Schmidle)
- English (Fred Muratori)
- Jewish Studies (Patrick Stevens & Susette Newberry)
- Latino Studies (David Block & Tony Cosgrave)
- Medieval Studies (Virginia Cole)
- Philosophy (Wanda Wawro & Tony Cosgrave)
- Psychology (Nan Hyland & Michael Engle)
- Sociology (Nancy Skipper)
- Theatre (Fred Muratori)
Representatives from academic units in Cornell’s College of Arts & Sciences who would like to request an outreach page should get in touch with their library liaison or our Outreach Coordinator, Susette Newberry.
We have also created a number of subject-based research guides that offer useful bibliographic guidance to researchers at Cornell.
